Project Description

Biography:

Matteo completed his university studies in Turin, Italy, where he obtained both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Driven by his curiosity of cancer biology and treatment options, he joined the laboratory of Prof. Paola Defilippi at the Molecular Biotechnology Centre in Turin in 2022. There, he studied sensitivity to chemotherapy in breast cancer models for his Master’s thesis. Working on this exciting project taught him a great deal about laboratory research and motivated him to continue pursuing cancer research in the next steps of his career.

During the summer of 2024, Matteo also spent a short period as an intern in Prof. Cathrin Brisken’s laboratory, focusing on breast cancer cell dormancy. This experience, carried out at the EPFL in Lausanne, further strengthened his scientific interests and gave him valuable exposure to a great research environment.

Matteo is truly excited to be now part of Prof. Johanna Joyce’s lab at the University of Lausanne as an Adaptmet doctoral candidate. Here, he will study how the tumor microenvironment influences brain metastases progression, with a particular focus on the blood vasculature. He is happy to join such a collaborative and experienced team, where he is confident he will learn a lot. In addition, Matteo feels privileged to be part of the Adaptmet network, which offers a stimulating opportunity to grow together with other PhD students across Europe. Matteo is looking forward to seeing where this experience will take him!
