As part of the ambitious European ADAPTMET consortium, the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) is playing a vital role in tackling one of oncology’s toughest challenges. Under the expert supervision of Dr. Mariona Graupera, leader of the Endothelial Pathobiology and Microenvironment group, the project explores the intricate dance between cancer cells and their surroundings. By focusing on four key scientific pillars—cell fate, environment, latency, and expansion—Dr. Graupera and the ADAPTMET team are working to uncover how the immune system and surrounding tissues influence cancer progression. This collaborative effort not only seeks to identify new pharmacological targets but also mentors 16 doctoral researchers, equipping them with the cutting-edge technical skills needed to lead the future of metastasis research.
