Metastasis remains one of the most significant challenges in oncology, accounting for over 90% of cancer-related deaths. To address this urgent medical need, IRB Barcelona is leading ADAPTMET, a pioneering European initiative dedicated to uncovering the fundamental mechanisms that allow cancer cells to adapt and spread. Building on the success of the Evomet project, this €4.4M consortium brings together 14 top-tier institutions across Europe to train the next generation of cancer researchers. By focusing on critical scientific angles such as cell fate, latency, and environmental interaction, ADAPTMET aims to identify new therapeutic targets and transform patient care for those facing metastatic disease.
